Our Story

Twenty years ago, Lola's began with one simple idea... to create beautiful, handmade cupcakes.

Since then, we've grown from cupcakes to celebration cakes, brownies and so much more. From bakeries across London to Birmingham and Manchester, nationwide delivery, collection lockers and doorstep deliveries, we've found more ways to help you celebrate, wherever you are.

Twenty years later, we're celebrating that journey with a limited-edition collection inspired by the nostalgic flavours of British summer picnics and afternoon tea. Bringing together much loved classics with a playful Lola's twist, the range is a celebration of everything we stand for – handmade bakes, quality ingredients, and creating unforgettable moments with the people you love.

Whether you're gathering with family, celebrating a birthday, enjoying an afternoon in the sunshine or simply treating someone special, our 20th Birthday Collection has been created to bring people together and make every occasion feel a little more special.

Most of all, it's our way of saying thank you. To our incredible team, whose passion and craftsmanship go into every bake, and to our wonderful customers who have trusted Lola's to be part of their celebrations over the past twenty years.

Meet Lucy, Our 20th Birthday Illustrator!

For our 20th birthday, we partnered with British illustrator Lucy Grepne. Inspired by food, travel and the places people love, Lucy creates charming watercolour illustrations full of character, detail and nostalgia. Her playful storytelling style made her the perfect person to help celebrate 20 years of Lola's and the moments we've shared together.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and what you do?

I am a freelance illustrator specialising in all things food, lifestyle, and travel. I create watercolour illustrations both digitally and traditionally. As well as working with Lola's, I’m currently working with the team at Studio Hovey to produce the illustration for the next series of Bake Off, which I have been illustrating for a number of years now.

What excited you about this project?

I had never worked on packaging on this scale before, especially for such an iconic brand. It was an immediate yes when I was approached. Once I learned more about the project, I could really see how my illustration style could bring this vision to life.

What inspired you and your designs?

I was inspired by the theme of celebration and what it means to me, bringing that same sense of joy to the design. Celebration, to me, has always revolved around food, drink, and the people you share those moments with. Whether it’s a big occasion or a simple gathering around a table, there’s something special about bringing people together through food.

Are there any hidden details people should look out for?

In some of the packaging, there’s a little hidden detail of a man in the distance on a bike delivering some Lola’s cakes. One of my favourite things about this illustration is that there are little details to discover throughout, and I wanted it to feel like a fun spotting game encouraging people to look closer and see how many of the iconic Lola’s cake flavours they can find.
